Crutches Get You Back in the Game
An injury to the lower body is never convenient. Unfortunately, in competitive sports, injuries are a part of the game. There are not many competitive athletes who manage to enjoy a career free from injury. For the less severe injuries, it is common to hear the phrase to walk it off as if it is no big deal. Sometimes it may not be a big deal, but often times, even the minor injuries have the ability to evolve into more serious ones. In the world of competitive sports, winning is everything. Players, coaches, and fans alike have a vested interest in everyone giving it their all day in and day out. On the other hand, lower body injuries are nothing to play around with. When they do occur, walking it off is not always the best solution. Using crutches  to keep pressure off of the injury is the only way to ensure a speedy recovery and get back in the game.

Coaches or parents may tell players to walk it off when they suffer an injury. However, they only have the ability to see how the injury occurs, not what the injury is. What may look like a simple twisted ankle may in fact be a broken bone or a torn muscle. The severity of an injury cannot be properly measured until a medical professional examines it. It is always best to seek professional advice before returning to action. Whether the injury is diagnosed or not, it is recommended to keep crutches on hand in order to alleviate some of the pressure on the injury while awaiting the professional results. Keeping off the injury while icing it is the best way to treat it until a professional examination can be performed. The majority of sports teams and facilities will keep the proper medical equipment close by in the event that an injury should occur.

The highly competitive nature of sports makes every player want to participate at all times. Every player wants to be the best. When he or she is not in the field of play, it gives another player a chance to outshine them. This attitude does little to support the team as a whole, though. The true nature of sports is one of team camaraderie to achieve the ultimate goal of success. When a player comes back from an injury too soon, they run the risk of jeopardizing the rest of their season and in the worst case, the rest of their career. No medical professional would ever recommend rushing the healing process. Not only can it cause irreparable harm to the player, but it could leave the team shorthanded as well. Instead of telling someone to walk it off, the better saying would be to keep off of it using crutches.

All competitive sports run the risk of injury. It is just a part of the game. Players are taught to play hard and leave everything they have out on the field on a daily basis. When people put their bodies through such arduous and strenuous activities, injuries are inevitable. Despite all of the hard work athletes put into exercise, weight lifting, and proper diets to keep their bodies in peak physical condition, injuries are bound to happen. Although they can do little to prevent injuries, they can remain prepared for the most unfortunate circumstances. Providing the team with medical devices such as crutches, ice packs, and braces is the only way to ensure that the players will be back on the field and ready to compete in a timely manner.
