A Fire Extinguisher to Meet all of Your Fire Safety Needs
To ensure your safety, the safety of your friends, family, employees and customers you need a fire extinguisher. A fire extinguisher is a must have in your place of employment, your business and your home. Fire extinguishers can help save a small fire from escalating into a full blown fire and they can prevent injuries and even death. In addition, for most areas, it is the law that just about any store or public place have a fire extinguisher available in the case of an emergency.

When you are picking out a fire extinguisher, it is important to pick out a fire extinguisher that is appropriate for your needs. There are five different classes of fires, and there are certain fire extinguishers that work best on the different fires. For starters, a Class A fire is a wood, paper or cloth fire and it is recommended that a water, water with additive, foam spray or powder fire extinguisher be used. Next, a Class B fire involves flammable liquids and diesel. The recommended fire extinguisher for a Class B fire is a foam, powder or carbon dioxide (CO2) fire extinguisher. Class C fires consist of flammable gases and you should use a powder fire extinguisher on this type of fire. Class D fires are made out of flammable metals and it is best to use specialized powder fire extinguishers for metal fires. Finally, Class F fires are cooking fires involving cooking oils. You should use a wet chemical fire extinguisher for Class F type fires. While in the UK, there are no technical defined Class E fires, they are still acknowledged and it is recommended that you should keep either a CO2 fire extinguisher or an automatic powder fire extinguisher on hand in case this type of fire occurs.

Your environment and the type of fire that is most likely to your environment is what will determine the fire extinguisher that you should purchase. There is a massive selection of fire extinguishers available for you to choose from. It is best when looking for a fire extinguisher to look for one that comes with a manufacturer’s warranty, a low price tag and possible fill ups and maintenance included.

You will also want to make sure that the fire extinguisher that you decide on is manufactured at the highest quality, and is completely up to code, certified and recognized as an appropriate fire extinguisher to fight the type of fire you are likely to see at your location. There are many types of fire extinguishers to choose from. At any given place, choose from a CO2 fire extinguishers or foam fire extinguishers. Foam fire extinguishers are a popular, all around type of fire extinguisher because they are suitable for both Class A and Class B fires. Used for Class A, Class B, Class C and electrical fires powder fire extinguishers are also a popular type that you might want to look into purchasing. In addition, you will also see water fire extinguishers, a variety of automatic fire extinguishers, water additive fire extinguishers, wet chemical fire extinguishers and specialized fire extinguishers. Generally fire extinguishers come in the traditional wall mounted type, or wheeled type. They also come in chrome and different sizes for personal use such as in cars, on boats and when traveling.

When you own a fire extinguisher, it is important to follow the mounting instructions and don’t just put it anywhere. Actually mount it to a wall as instructed. Also make sure that everyone who may need to use it knows where to find it and knows how to use it. Additionally, check the fire extinguisher frequently to ensure that it is full and operating correctly if a fire should occur.
