Tips To Register Domain Name Properly
You have come up with a brilliant domain name for your website. Now what? First you need to make sure that domain name is available for you to use. It may already be registered to someone else or it may be up for sale. If the domain name that you want to use is ready for use then you need to register it. Registering a domain name means that you get the rights to use that domain name and no one else can steal it from you in the future (provided that you make all of your payments to your domain name host). To do this in the way that is best for your website you will want to follow some basic tips to register domain name.

Those tips include choosing the right kind of domain name, finding a low cost domain name host, making sure that your domain name host offers certain protections to you and monitoring your domain name post-registration. Doing these things will put you ahead of many other websites out there which aren’t taking these smart precautions to intelligently register domain name choices.

Before you can register your domain name, you need to choose that name. Your domain name can use any combination of letters (a-z) and numbers (0-9). The only other symbol that is allowed to be in your domain name is a hyphen and that can not be located at the start or end of your domain name. In other words, you can’t register a domain name such as –MyWebsite.com but you could register domain name My-Website.com.

Once you choose the name, you need to make sure that the domain name is available for you to use. You can find that information out on your own by looking through online databases of registered domain names, or just type the domain into your browser to see if a website result is returned.

There are two things that you want to make sure that you pay attention to when you hire a company to register domain name. Those two things are affordability and the offer of various protections.

If you want to choose a company that is low-cost, look especially for low-cost companies that offer special deals. For example, some companies offer one free domain name when you sign up to use them as your domain name host. Although there are a lot of free and cheap domain name hosts out there, you don’t want to rely only on cost when choosing the company that you are going to work with. You also want to make sure that the company is going to protect your domain name.

Make sure that you are dealing with a solid company with previous experience and a likelihood of remaining in business for a long time to come. Secondly, ask about what protections they offer including how they will protect you from cyber squatters and what they will do to make sure that your domain name registration is anonymous so that your website security is not compromised. A good company will offer these things when you register domain name choices with them.

Your domain name registrar may also be able to provide you with windows hosting solutions to actually hosting your website on your chosen domain name, so you may be able to negotiate on price if you buy both services from one company.

Once you have registered your domain name there are some things that you should continue to do in regards to the domain name. One of the most important things is that you monitor the use of domain names that are similar to yours. That’s because there’s a chance that your customers may mistake these sites for yours and take their business to the other company. A good domain name host is going to offer this type of monitoring for you but it’s also something that you can do manually on your own if you so choose.

Another thing that is really important is, of course, that you make sure to pay any fees required by the company you register your domain name with, failure to pay these fees means that your right to the domain name may disappear. These fees should only be due yearly and most good domain name hosts can let you pay for more years of registration in advance. You’ll be notified well in advance by the company when it’s time to register domain name again. That’s the smart way to register a domain name from start to finish.
