Traditional vs. Modern Wedding Invitations: Which One is Right for Your Wedding?
From the beginning many brides already know if they desire a traditional or more contemporarily-themed wedding. From having a type of wedding based on religious requirements, to carrying on family traditions or starting one of your own, traditional and modern weddings are not about which ones are better for a venue or audience, but rather the type of wedding preferred by the engaged couple. No matter what style is preferred, both traditional and modern wedding invitations are available to help couples emphasize their wedding’s theme to future guests.

If having a traditional type of wedding or one that is more conservative, couples may choose to use established fonts, papers and trims. While these may appear simple to many brides, having an easy to read format focuses the wedding’s theme on the couple and not any fancy embellishments. Furthermore, the simpler the wedding invitation, the less expensive it is going to cost. Couples looking to stay within their budgets may wish to consider ordering traditional wedding invitations.

Adding flair, personality and color to guests’ mailboxes, modern wedding invitations are perfect for couples looking to make a statement. These types of wedding invitations allow couples to tie-in details concerning the wedding to potential guests. From setting the mood about the wedding’s time to visually supplementing date or location, couples interested in modern wedding invitations are looking to express part of themselves in all aspects of their wedding.

Modern wedding invitations are also excellent ideas for couples getting married in unusual locations or having themed weddings. Since not every bride wears a princess style wedding dress or gets married in a church, being able to uniquely express your unique personality to others is important. With multiple choices available in papers, textures, fonts and trims, these types of invitations allow couples to incorporate as many elements of their wedding as possible without looking tacky or going overboard. This also shows guests that couples put a lot of thought into their invitation selections and proves they are thoroughly committed to this special day.

Just as couples getting married for the first time need wedding invitations, so do long-established, remarrying couples. Those planning a renewal of vows ceremony have a few options available when it comes to selecting wedding invitations and wedding programs. First, if they have a copy of their original wedding invitation, the couple can select a traditional wedding invitation style to replicate their first invitation. This is a great idea for couples getting remarried at the same church or venue. The other option available to couples having these types of ceremonies is to select more modern wedding invitations. Since many of these papers, prints, ribbons, fonts and trims were not available to couples who may have been married some time ago, being able to upgrade their original wedding invitations may be a welcomed option.

Wedding invitations can also be selected based on audience demographics. Traditional wedding invitations with simple designs and larger font may be a good choice for older guests. Similarly, having a wedding with mostly younger guests may persuade a couple to choose modern wedding invitations. While a wedding’s goal is not to compete or out-perform other couples’ weddings, adding a little something extra to your wedding invitation is perfectly acceptable. Ultimately, it is up to the engaged couple to select wedding invitations based on their preferences; however, announcing your wedding’s date, time and location is the main goal. In the end, be sure to choose a wedding invitation that makes you feel proud to send it; after all it will have your name and your future spouse’s name printed on it.
